Course Purpose

The topic of this course is Living in Cedar Falls & the Cedar Valley. It consists of a community resources orientation for new students or residents of the Cedar Falls area, and will provide local information such as engagement opportunities, transportation, history, and culture. This course will give newcomers to Cedar Falls a sufficient look into what living in the area is like, as well as give them the opportunity to gain advice and insight from other residents. My goal for this course is to build connections and community for those new to the Cedar Falls area!

Course Layout

Lesson #1: History of Cedar Falls

  • 30 minutes

  • Informational Document with an overview of Cedar Falls history, events, and opportunities.

Lesson #2: Cedar Falls Website

  • 15 minutes

  • Short Video Presentation providing information on resources found on the Cedar Falls website.

Activity #1: Practice Problems

  • 15 minutes

  • Comprehension questions accompanied with feedback to provide a summary over the material presented in the lessons.

Activity #2: Interactive Map Tour

  • 30 minutes

  • Google Earth interactive map highlighting key locations mentioned in the readings.

Assessment #1: Reflection Journal

  • 30 minutes

  • Short reflective exercise over resources provided in the Cedar Falls area, and how they will be used in your own life.​

Assessment #2: Virtual Discussion 

  • 30 minutes

  • Padlet virtual discussion about engagement resources to gain advice from others in the community.

1. To begin logging into the course, click the profile picture in the top right corner of the screen and sign up for a Wix account.

2. To begin accessing learning materials, find the first lesson and click on "View Details." If you are successfully logged in to Wix, you should be able to view all of the learning materials.

3. If you are not able to view the learning materials through this Wix log-in method, there is a drop-down menu found under "Learning Materials" where you can view them as well.

4. Assessments can be accessed by clicking on the assessment folder, which has a document with links to both assessments.
